Amber

It is the fossilized remains of tree resin. When a tree has been injured or is fighting against disease it often oozes a resin that helps heal the injury similar to the way in which blood clots work in animals and humans. When insects become trapped in the sticky resin mess they form inclusions along with leafs, vegetables, matters and bubbles. When the resin is exposed to the atmosphere it forms skin, dries out and finally crumbles but under certain circumstances a large mass will form somehow become buried and in time will turn in amber. The two main sources of amber are the Baltic States and the Dominican Republic.

Amber jewelry dating back to 3,700 BC as been found in Estonia and Amber treasure has been found in Egypt from as far back as 2,600 BC. In the Stone Age man is thought to have believed that amber possessed supernatural properties and both wore and worshipped it. The ancient Germans burned Amber as incense so they called it Bernstein or burn stone. The Greeks called amber electron or sun-made. Homer mentions amber jewelry, earring and a necklace of amber beads as a high price gift in The Odyssey . Amber was also used as a good luck charm by Europeans.
