Color In Your Diamond When it comes to color in your diamond least is definitely the best. The most brilliant diamond you can find actually has no color at all. The reason for this is that the lack of color means nothing is hindering the brilliance of your diamond when light permeates the diamond. To measure the diamond color the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) created an alphabetical grading scale. The most colorless stone carries a rating of D on a scale from D to Z. Interesting fact of why the scale starts at D is due to when the system originated in the 1950's many business men took advantage of the color grading scale. Many stated that their diamond colors were AA or AAA diamonds so the GIA identified the best diamond color with a D grading to further distance themselves from the propaganda. The gradations on the diamond color system are very accurate and can be so small that it is almost impossible for a non-professional to see the differences. To see any significant change in diamond color you would have to go far down the diamond color scale. The diamond color going down the scale can drastically determine the value of your diamond which is similar to the other three C's of cut, clarity, and carat weight. For instance a D graded diamond costs much more than J graded diamond which can actually be equal in reference to the other three C's of cut, clarity, and carat weight.
